Backing Team DC for European CrossFit Title

SPORTTAPE is delighted to announce that we will be supporting Team DC, based at Dragon CrossFit who qualified in first place for the European CrossFit Regionals, this is no mean feat in itself, so with the help of SPORTTAPE we hope they will be able to conquer Europe and head over the pond to challenge teams from across the world! We were lucky to grab each member of the team in between their gruelling training sessions for a quick Q and A to understand a little more about what CrossFit means to them. TEAM-DC

Here is a small quote from the team on what SPORTTAPE means to them.. "The SPORTTAPE provided will be used all weekend, with CrossFit, a shoulder niggle is very very common due to the amount of extension used in the joint and pressure..SPORTTAPE allows the athletes to continue good as new, and with the help of our Team Sports Massage Therapist and SPORTTAPE supplies they should be in good hands!"

What is your sporting background?

Professional Rugby, Semi Pro Rugby and then onto CrossFit, placed 13th in Europe Individual but gave my spot up to be part of this team.

How did you first get involved with CrossFit?

First got introduced to CrossFit many moons ago before I went travelling (about 5 years ago) then while travelling around Australia, I made it part of my route to visit different CrossFit Boxes, I was hooked and did my first comp just before heading home.

What it is about CrossFit that got you hooked?

How it pushes you out of your comfort zone, and how no matter whether I am competing at a big comp of just training at the Gym I am constantly challenged by it. I am a coach as well as an Athlete and I love how CrossFit engages even those who have never exercised before, I have seen real lives change because of it.

What is your favourite WOD and why?

Whitten - long and labourious....keep pushing

What does the future hold for you in CrossFit?

Well....I obviously want to achieve the Dream, but outside of Andy the Athlete I am also Full time coach and co-owner of Dragon CrossFit and I want to see people get better and fitter from the things we teach....and I cant not mention, I became a Dad last month, so I want to be a really really good one of those too!!

DANDan Forster @Dan_For5er

What is your sporting background?

Sport background - tennis at university. Never focused on one sport

How did you first get involved with CrossFit?

A friend dragged me along, I fancied a change to a normal gym routine. After 1 session I wanted to be better than the friend I came with and it went from there

What it is about CrossFit that got you hooked?

I wanted to be able to do every movement well. I picked something and stuck to it, then moved on until I could do it.

What is your favourite WOD and why?

Nancy. You can always run faster or pick up the bar quicker!

What does the future hold for you in CrossFit?

Regionals! 1 step at a time...... After I'll set a new target and keep going to get it. Getting to the games is the dream for me! keeping up in a professional sport as a part time athlete will always be the biggest challenge!

RACHELRachel Watling @Rach_Watling

What is your sporting background?

I used to Showjump professionally and competed at county level hockey, netball and athletics. I grew up on a farm with lots of horses, dogs, cats, pigs and sheep. I honestly believe this is such a good base for a CrossFitter. I spent my childhood throwing bales of hay and shavings around as well as the daily ‘farmers carry’ with the water buckets down to the fields. With 13 horses in the yard it was a full time job which meant I was constantly moving, lifting heavy objects and trying to control all the hyper horses!!

How did you first get involved with CrossFit?

A good friend of mine, Pete Rankin, set up his own gym (The Boatshed). He asked me to come to his first fundamentals to make up the numbers. I can safely say he got me completely hooked on the sport, so I have Pete to thank for my crossfit addiction!

What it is about CrossFit that got you hooked?

I am a very competitive person and since retiring from the horses I struggled to find a sport that fulfilled my need to compete. CrossFit was a great platform for my competitive nature but also provide me with something new and challenging. The community also played a huge part in getting me hooked. I have built an amazing network of friends who I never would have met without CrossFit.

What is your favourite WOD and why?

Maybe not my favourite but it has to be ‘Amanda’.  It took me so long to master a muscle up and to comfortably squat snatch, one of my greatest CrossFit memories was completing this wod as prescribed.

What does the future hold for you in CrossFit?

As the sport gets more elite it is becoming increasingly more difficult to maintain a full time job and the intense training that is required. I had to give up coaching in order to concentrate on my own training so I would like to go back to this. I would love to maintain my current level of competition but the reality of having a full time job, I think, will prevent this.

What is your sporting background?

Ex Marathon Runner and Ex Les Mills Body Attack Group Fitness Instructor

How did you first get involved with CrossFit?

My running coach suggested that I give CrossFit a go to give my strength training more depth and structure and I tried it and was addicted! I quit the running club.

What is it about CrossFit that got you hooked?

I only had to work out for 8 minutes to recreate a feeling that I would get from running 26 miles!!!

What is your favourite WOD and why?

"Miagi" The only thing I love more than a chipper is an EPIC chipper... A WOD that requires you to complete 500 reps of nastiness is my kind of work out.

What does the future hold for you in CrossFit?

A trip to the Games this summer would be my dream fulfilled! Who knows what the future holds with all the insanely fit and strong athletes coming into the sport now... as long as I am able to participate in crossfit on any level and be around my healthy, happy and positive friends and family, I will continue
