Hopefully you’ve read the recent blog by Ieuan chatting about his American training camp. If you haven’t, it’s well worth a read!
I thought I’d follow up on Ieuan’s blog with one of my own, since it was my turn to hit some warm weather and train hard for a couple of weeks.
It’s a very similar story too with the main difference being the location. Ieuan spent his time on top of the Rocky Mountains, whilst I visited sunny Spain.
Camps tend to be fairly monotonous, extremely tiring, and full of little niggles that come with an increase in training intensity. However, they can be well worth the effort that goes into them, so long as you’re cautious, and do everything right (sleep well, hydrate, stretch, roll, ice, and prevent)!
The absolute best part of going on a camp with a national team is meeting the other hopefuls, the other athletes who spend all of their time and effort trying to reach their bodies limitations and become the best that they can. You soak up an atmosphere of guts, grit, and passion. You get support from people who have gone through the same countless hours of tiredness, hard work, and pain as you have. It forces the best out of you!
Whilst both weeks were incredibly successful, I did have to reap the benefits of SPORTTAPE during the second week. A 10% increase in training, along with a dangerous mix of an extremely hard track and aggressive spikes led to my only small issue whilst on camp. Luckily, I had nothing more than tight calves, which were easily rehabbed with a simple I-Strip over the point of tightness. One application lasted me the week, and I’m thankful that the tape did its job.
The camp has left me in easily the best shape I’ve been in, and SPORTTAPE has been a phenomenal help towards this over the past couple of years. Still lots of hard work left to do, plenty of grit and determination, and a large amount of luck needed, but fingers crossed I can join Ieuan with that A standard!
I hope you enjoyed, and speak to you all soon!
